The Darin Erstad 2000 Fleer Showcase Masterpiece made an appearance this month and obliterated eBay sales records of any Erstad card sold in its 60-day archive window with the next biggest sale closing at $338. These 2000 Fleer Showcase Masterpiece parallels are bringing more and more each year, so it’s no surprise this guy handled the auction block with immense command. The gold sparkle nameplates are what differentiates the Masterpiece parallels from the Legacy Collection parallels, which contain holofoil nameplates. That and the stated print runs on card backs.
A friend won this card and I remember encouraging him to bid hard because these tend to attract extremely aggressive bids and if he wanted to participate, he better be willing to take a beating in the process. He stood his ground and was the last man standing, which makes me proud.
