Whenever I see cards of Yasiel Puig, I’m reminded of 2013 and being at Valley Sports Cards in Woodland Hills, CA. This was during the prime of his rookie year. Another patron in the store marveled at his cards and playfully said, “He’s in a puig of his own.” I always thought that was tacky as heck, but it’s an endearing memory from 2013. A friend and I used to meetup at Frank and Sons in the City of Industry to shop for baseball cards and one dealer we both knew had spreads of Puig cards since he was selling strong at the time. I never bought a single card, and even to this day have very few.
The two card depicted would’ve been worth significant figures during his prime playing years. These days, with his career spanning only 7 years and ending in 2019 coupled with the controversy surrounding his name from a gambling scheme, they bring quite a bit less, but still strong figures nonetheless. Despite the controversy, however, I’d love to own these are two cards even though I didn’t place bids on either auction. The images look great together here though and that’s what counts.
