1991 Starline Hollywood Walk of Fame Trading Cards

1991 Starline Hollywood Walk of Fame is a 250-card set dedicated to actors, musicians, inventors, and other public figures. Cards were issued in 36-pack boxes with 12 cards per pack. The set contains a variety of printing errors that were corrected way late in the production run, which is why they’re harder to find than their erroneous counterparts. I wasn’t in the market for this set when it was released back in the Summer of 1991, and only took notice of it in early 2022 when I saw the Betty White auto at a show just after she died on the last day of 2021. Gosh, she had such an amazing career. I always admired her work even from her time on The Golden Girls, the popular sitcom that ran from 1985 to 1992. But she enjoyed a long career well after that show ended. As for Sylvester Stallone, he’s one of the all-time greatest action-movie actors. His work is always so good and he’s gotten even more terrifying with age. The set design presents an excellent snapshot to the early 1990s. I always appreciate bright colors and this one does it quite well.

Prototype Promos Checklist:

Documentation about the promo cards is surprisingly scarce. Like other promo cards, they are generally identified as advanced issues sent to dealers and distributors in an effort to promote the set before the release date. Reports indicate that they were also distributed at card shows and conventions. Print runs of the promos were never issued, but they are much rarer than their base-set counterparts, which implies they were printed in much shorter supply. What distinguishes them from the base cards is that they feature different border colors, the word Prototype is printed diagonally across card backs, and sometimes different photos.
