2000 Vanguard is a 100-card set issued by Pacific that was produced with a series of parallels and inserts with varying degrees of rarity. The set features rookies and veterans. When the set was released, packs carried an SRP of $3.99/ea. The premium card stock and varying color parallels makes these very attractive cards. As with many other Pacific issues, super low serial numbered parallels exist. A sample version of the Tony Gwynn base card was issued to promote the set since 2000 was the first year Pacific issued the Vanguard line. It’s differentiated with the word “SAMPLE” printed across the back as well as the same text printed where the card number would normally be, and its addition brings the base set to 101 cards.
