Aaron Judge Sets Single Season AL Home Run Record

On Tuesday, October 4, 2022, Aaron Judge hit his 62nd home run of the 2022 MLB season, which makes him the single-season home run record holder for the American League. The record was previously held by Roger Maris (61), which was fittingly set in 1961, and coincidentally 61 years ago. This couldn’t have been more perfect. Before Maris, it was Babe Ruth (60) in 1927.

In the days leading up to #62, there was constant chatter about this record and if Judge would stand as MLBs overall single season home run record holder above Sammy Sosa, Mark McGwire, and Barry Bonds, all guys who played during the marred steroid era of the 1990s and 2000s. Foggy to some, clear to others, the dialogue on this topic is seemingly endless and everyone’s a critic. Regardless of what you think, we have to appreciate Judge’s #62.

This milestone will, no doubt, impact the hobby of baseball cards. If you’re in the market for Aaron Judge cards, now is a great time to review what’s in the market because events like this tend to attract serious cards to the marketplace.
