As a collector with only 7 years of hobby experience at the time of this product’s release, I thought I’d never pull one of these. To me, cards from the 1995 Leaf Heading for the Hall set were as mythical as those found in the 1994 Leaf Gold Stars set but with half the print run, this time only 5,000. I remember looking at the prices in the various guides at the time and thinking how incredible it would be to pull any card from this elusive set. The set consists of just 8 cards and features exclusive superstar talent. These cards were inserted into packs of 1995 Leaf Series 2 Hobby, and to make things even more interesting they were released with an unstated insertion ratio.
I’ve opened a lot of 1995 Leaf Baseball and never pulled any of these. It wasn’t until 2003 that I secured the Frank Thomas from this set. I was at a local hobby shop and found this card sitting in the $1 bin. I about lost it with excitement. You know the type – shaking with thoughts of unspoken thievery knowing you’re about to pay pennies for something that to you is worth so much more. Yea, this was the rich feeling I experienced at that very moment.
