1992 Donruss Elite is a 12-card set with 10 cards being the base set and the other two being commemorative cards with special attributes. The base set of 10 cards has a print run of just 10,000, which may seem like a lot, but in relation to the total output of 1992 Donruss, which is likely in the tens of millions per card, it’s minuscule. The set card numbers are a continuation of the Donruss Elite set from the year prior, which would be a strategy implemented for Donruss Elite sets issued into the middle part of the 1990s when it got it’s own regular set.
The other two cards in the 1992 Donruss Elite set are commemorative and feature Rickey Henderson and Cal Ripken Jr. who signed 5000 copies of his card making it the chase card issued specifically to drive product sales. This marketing strategy still to this day draws collectors to buy boxes of 1992 Donruss in search of the Cal Ripken Jr. AU.
