Here’s the deal, when dark print goes all the way to the edges of a card, it brings with it an increased potential for condition sensitivity. What this means to collectors is that high grade examples are exceedingly rare. If the set registry is your thing, well, have fun! Things can get pretty expensive pretty fast around here.

This Tiger Woods 1998 Champions of Golf Masters Collection performed very well at auction for a couple reasons. The obvious being the grade PSA assigned to it. There are two versions of this card: 1997, and 1997 Gold Foil. This is the former and at the time of this writing, 8,482 examples of this card have been graded by PSA, and of those just 2 have achieved the elusive 10 grade, which equates to .0002%.

While it’s common to see a significant gap in price from grade to grade especially when nearing the top of the spectrum. In this case, while a PSA 10 example of the Tiger Woods 1998 Champions of Golf Masters Collection brings over $60k, a PSA 8 example can be had for less than $40 in some cases. If condition doesn’t concern you to any significant degree, grabbing an 8 might be the better decision as it won’t break the bank.

Something else this card has going for it is the centering and stunning eye appeal. A lot of these come with condition flaws and centering issues. This one appears to be as close to perfect as one can hope. All that said, here are the final results:

Regardless of how you feel about him, Tiger Woods’ golf cards continue to appreciate in value with time. He is considered by many to be one of the greatest golfers of all time. The closing price on this 1998 Champions of Golf Masters Collection reflects that.
