Top Performing Baseball Card Auctions: May 2018 - 1990s Edition

May was a great month for 1990s sales records. Some really interesting pieces surfaced and sold with a good chunk of ultra elusive stuff making its way to market. The list is introduced with a Ken Griffey Jr. 1998 Topps Stars Galexy Gold Rainbow /5, which has seen its fair share of market activity over the years. I’ve seen this card on eBay several times over the past two years. It’s an excellent piece and certainly one that’s likely to appreciate with time. This recorded sale will perhaps be seen as a bargain in the future. Other key highlights include two sales from the Pinnacle Bankruptcy run, which made a huge entrance into the market during the tail end of 2017. These are some late bloomers but certainly ones to watch.

One seller in May listed a block of PSA examples of the always appreciated 1997 Finest Gold Embossed Refractors. I had to include one non-obvious sale in this months list since his inventory was so incredibly impressive. The Mark McGwire 1998 Flair Showcase Masterpiece is, well, one of those cards that speaks for itself. Even in sophomoric status, the 1998 installment of Flair Showcase continues to strike as another jaw dropper. I actually was the buyer of the Frank Thomas 1997 SPx Grand Finale. It’s been a card on my Most Wanted list for years so figured now’s as good a time as any to check that bugger off the list.
