2003 Fleer Patchworks Game-Worn Patch baseball cards were released in May of 2003, within the midst of the Game Used relic craze. It’s an interesting set with a nice design and lots of inserts and variations to chase. Sets released in the earlier part of the 2000s often have confusing collation patterns. In a way and in terms of product identification, this era can be a strenuous mental exercise.
The 2003 Fleer Patchworks Game-Worn Patch set has subtle but documented associated location difficulty. Pulling together a 5-card run for a single player in the set can take years to accomplish. In my case, it took me 6 years. For a set of cards with print runs between 50 and 300, you’d think these would be easier to find. The last card I found was the second tier up, the gold version, with a serial number of 250. Bottom line, these are just hard to find.
I’ve mentioned this set in a previous blog post in an effort to showcase different types of memorabilia pieces. This set features a variety of unique styles of jersey relics. From pin stripes, to flat swatches, to patches, a lot is covered on the various parallels within this 5-card set. This run features appealing colors and aesthetics. Brought together, this is a beautiful little collection. If you collect a certain player or team, this is an interesting albeit challenging run to source. Since not all players have 5 different parallels, here’s a version of what to expect:
- Level 1 Single (Blue): Serial numbered to 300.
- Level 1 Single (Gold): Serial numbered to 250.
- Level 2 Dual (Green): Serial numbered to 100.
- Level 2 Dual (Silver): Serial numbered to 100.
- Level 3 Multi (Copper): Serial numbered to 50.
While I can’t generalize, in my experience the Level 1 Single’s serial numbered to 250 are the hardest to find. All in all, the 2003 Fleer Patchworks Game-Worn Patch set is an excellent one with lots of challenges and certainly one to be proud of when completed.
